Keeping Your Lawn Healthy

By in Landscaping

Keeping your lawn healthy in Greenville can often times be a difficult task to accomplish whether it be missing patches of lawn, weeds or insects. There are, however, a number of different ways to get around this and easily maintain a beautiful lawn.

Over fertilization can often be a large factor in unhealthy grass. Applying fertilization incorrectly can either directly injure the grass, or can help contribute to current lawn conditions and disease. Correct application is essential in maintaining your lawn; the correct ratio is about 3 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet of lawn.

Lawn growth can be greatly affected by over watering the grass. Many people believe that if they simply turn the sprinklers on, their grass will be fine; this is not a very good lawn care practice. Proper watering levels can be easily calculated and maintained with little effort. This is a great way to help keep your lawn in good and healthy shape.

If you end up with dry patches in your lawn, there are a few of ways to go about fixing them. The first is by aerating the lawn, which is a process of breaking up the soil to allow air, water and nutrients down into the soil. If your lawn does not react to aeration you may want to simply replace the dry or dead patch.

Be sure that you are using correct irrigation methods if you are not watering the lawn yourself. Irrigation can play a large role in the overall health of your lawn. Once you find a method that works, be sure to stick to it closely and make necessary changes as needed. Proper care will ensure that you will maintain a beautiful lawn.
