What Kind of Grass to Plant in Greenville and Spartanburg?

By in Landscaping

There is a very wide selection of grass to choose from; selecting one that will properly fit the conditions for the Greenville and Spartanburg area is very important. There are a few groups of grass that work better in our area than other:

Bermuda Grass is probably the easiest kind of lawn to grow in Spartanburg and Greenville. Bermuda grass is know for absorbing high amounts of sunlight and only requires low to medium amounts of maintenance. Bermuda grass is typically grown from seed and thrives in warm southern atmospheres, but can also withstand cold temperatures as well.

Fescue is another grass that grows well in our area. It is known mostly for being a good transitional grass that is well adapted for the change in seasons. Fescue grasses are also well adapted to shade and will, with proper care, maintain color for the greater part of the year.

Zoysia can be a great landscaping choice for Spartanburg and Greenville as long as the soil has good fertility. Fertilization and care is needed to maintain Zoysia grasses, but if done right, the Zoysia grass will complement the rest of your landscaping beautifully.

Centipede is the least common category to plant in our area, but still has many features that are very appealing to landscapers in Greenville and Spartanburg. Centipede grass is well adapted for conditions with low soil fertility and can thrive with little maintenance and less frequent mowing. Centipede grass is also capable of staying green for most of the year.

While there is a very large number of choices for landscaping in Greenville and Spartanburg, we strongly recommend selecting one from the above mentioned categories. Typically these types of grass tend to thrive better than others in our area.
